教学目标
At the end of this class, students will be able to:
1. Conclude the signs, process, damages and rescue works of the Tangshan Earthquake.
2. Recognize the form, meaning and pragmatic functions in context of those important vocabulary and phrases, such as pipe, extreme, at the end, burst, dam, useless, in ruins, be trapped etc.
3. Acted as a survivor of the earthquake, retell the process, damages and rescue of the earthquake according to key words.
4Realize the emotional attitude of the author and think about natural disasters and sense the social warmth in faced with natural disasters.

1. After reading the article, conclude the main idea of each paragraph.
2. Obtain the form, meaning and pragmatic function of new words and phrases in context.
3. Sense the emotional attitude of the author and conduct critical and effective text interaction.

Pre-reading
1. Show some pictures about earthquakes and ask the students: what happened in the pictures? (To attract students’ interest on the topic.)
 
2. Pair work: what causes earthquakes? Do you know any omens of earthquake? What are they? ( To activate students’ prior knowledge on earthquakes.)
 
3. Name some big earthquakes happened in the world, elicit Tangshan Earthquake.( To elicit the article.)
 
4. Pair work: discuss the meaning of the title and predict the content of article according to the title. (Inspire students’ interests on this article)
 
While-reading
5. First reading: ask the students to skim the whole passage and conclude the main idea of each paragraph.( Get to know the main ideas. )
 
6. Second reading: give some verbal or reorganized questions and set some gap-filling exercises for students to understand the article paragraph by paragraph. When discussing or checking answers, the meaning and usages of important words and phrases will be explained. (Get students to understand the article in a detailed way, also, provide them the chance to learn the new words and phrases.)
 
7. Third reading: give some comprehension question for the students to discuss.( Give students the chance to sense the emotional mood and motivate them to think about natural disasters.)
 
 
Post-reading
8. The student work in pair to do an interview activity: one acted as a reporter, the other is a survivor.
(Consolidate the words and phrases they learned in the article and understanding of the whole article.)

 自我分析:
这一堂课的活动设计多样,学生积极踊跃,上完课以后,学生对文章内容理解基本没有问题,也更加熟悉知识语法点。但是由于“地震”这一话题比较陈旧,情感目标实现得不够彻底。可以在之后的听说课中继续谈论这一话题,以求得情感目标的实现。另外,课堂上一些细节的处理还欠妥,比如竞赛活动没有完全实施,也未说明具体奖惩。
 
同学意见:这堂课的教学目标清晰,教师设计的活动都体现了教学目标的实现,教师充满激情,课堂活跃,结构清晰,学生易懂。
